Top 100 movies to see while in college

These articles have been unedited and unrevised so beware mistakes!!

I am approaching what will hopefully be my final year at Kent State University.  Such an event has caused me to look back on what I have learned and what I have achieved in this humble place we call college.  I have learned that Ramen noodles should not be made with Tang.  Ive learned that metal in a microwave, though cool looking, is not a good thing.  I have mastered the art of staying awake in some of the most ridiculously boring classes and Ive learned how to look awake while sleeping in others.  Ive learned that dating someone on your floor is bad news and Ive learned that common dish soap looks really cool under the ray of a black light.

As for accomplishments, well my greatest accomplishment would have to be the game I made during my freshman year.  It was called Spastic Fun-Gasm.  It was a wonderful game involving a dorm hallway or building hallway and a big rubber band ball; the object being that one must throw said ball down said hallway and have it come back to you.  If that goal is reached then you receive one point for your team.  You play till you reach five points, then crown your winner and watch a movie because, trust me, youll be exhausted.  This game is still played among my dearest friends and my most rivaled enemies.  It is a game that will hopefully be carried onward by those of you who are reading this now.  As for my other accomplishments, Ive made it this far in school without too many problems and, well, eating that Tang flavored Ramen was a real achievement for all humankind.  I hope you dont have to experience that tasteever!

All joking aside, Ive also taken in some really awesome classes here (Creative Writing, any class with Culleton or Trogdon) and Ive made some really great friends, friends Im going to miss when this year ends.  Lets face it, college is really about learning, not only what you want to do with the remainder of your life, but about yourself and who you really are and who you really can be.

Besides the wonderful relationships Ive had these past few years, Ive learned that I love writing and watching films.  I love the craft, the skill involved and the time it takes to really churn out something spectacular.  Films can be a guide, an enemy and your friend all at the same time.  With that said, Id like to offer up a list to you of what Id call the top 100 movies to see while attending college.  They are in no particular order as I didnt see them in any order, but I encourage all of you to check out these films.  Some of the numbers here feature more than one film, as the director behind them is a master and all their work should be viewed.  Im sure you have seen some of these films, but honestly, check them out again.  They will be different this time around.  Some of these films are truly awful (bad movies are fun in large groups), some are mainstream, some are horrifying, some are new releases, some are sappy and some have even achieved cult status.  Some are spiritual and some are awakening to a level you cannot imagine (see: Shawshank Redemption).

I hope you will take this list, post it on your wall next to that NSync or Britney Spears poster, or if youre like me, your Jaws poster.  Check off the films one by one and learn from them.  They will enhance you college career and they will change you, hopefully for the better.  Oh, and on a side note, dont take time out of your studying to check out one of the movies from my list.  Id feel bad if you flunked a Spanish test because of Harold and Maude.  Additional information on these films can be found on the Internet Movie Database located at http://www.imdb.com.  Also, if you feel Ive left something off this list, be sure to email me.  My college career isnt over yet so Im open to seeing new movies.
